Question : EXPANSION OF JAMALPUR DIESEL SHED



(a) whether large scale maintenance and repair work of D.E.M.U passenger trains is carried out in Jamalpur Diesel Shed under Malda Division of Eastern Railway;

(b) if so, the number of D.E.M.U. trains, the maintenance of which is done every month in this shed;

(c) the number of routes on which the D.E.M.U. train repaired in Jamalpur Diesel Shed is plied;

(d) whether the Government has received any proposal from Eastern Railways for overall expansion of Jamalpur Diesel Shed; and

(e) if so, the details thereof and the time by which approval is likely to be accorded to the proposal?

(a) & (b): Yes, Sir. Presently, 14 Diesel Electrical Multiple Unit (D.E.M.U.) consisting of 14 driving coaches and 34 trailing coaches are based at Jamalpur for maintenance and repair work.

#10 pairs of passenger trains run over East Central Railway with Diesel Electrical Multiple Unit (D.E.M.U.) rakes.
# Each rake is given monthly maintenance at Jamalpur as per prescribed schedules. In addition, higher schedules are also done as per arising.
# The weekly maintenance and the trip maintenance are given over East Central Railway.

(c): The Diesel Electrical Multiple Unit (D.E.M.U.) trains maintained at Jamalpur Diesel Shed ply in 5 sections of East Central Railway namely Patna-Digha, Bakhtiarpur-Rajgir, Fatuha, Islampur, Mokama-Beghusarai and Patna-Mokama-Kiul sections.

(d) & (e): A proposal for infrastructural development for maintenance facilities of Diesel Electrical Multiple Unit (D.E.M.U.), was received. However, the proposal has not been adopted, as it suffers from operational demerits.
