(a) whether the Railways has been unsuccessful in complying with existing provisions for obtaining approval from Central Pollution Control Board for operating of sidings/goods godowns;
(b) if so, the reaction of the Government thereto; and
(c) the corrective measures taken by the Government in this regard and the outcome thereof?

(a) & (b): Pollution related laws of Central/State Government are applicable in the case of Railway sidings/goods sheds/godowns situated in its territorial jurisdiction. However, a formalized system of obtaining consents on ex-ante basis is not in existence.
(c): A committee has been formed to study the extent of pollution in handling of pollution intensive commodities at sidings and goods sheds and actions to be taken.
