Question : DISINVESTMENT POLICY .



(a) the details of the Government`s disinvestment policy and its implementation regarding Government equity in Central Public Sector Undertakings;

(b) the details of Government`s equity in non-core Public Sector Undertakings during the last three years ; and

(c) the details of disinvestment in the Public Sector strategic undertakings, item-wise and year-wise during the said period?

(a) The declared disinvestment policy of the Government is that the Government will in generality of cases, bring down its equity to 26% or below in all non-strategic public sector undertakings. The strategic Public Sector Enterprises are those operating in the areas of arms and ammunition and the allied items of defence equipment, defence aircraft and warships; atomic energy, except in the areas relating to the generation of nuclear power and the applications of radiation and radio isotopes to agriculture, medicine and non-strategic industries; Railway transport. All other PSUs are non- strategic.

(b) The details of Government`s equity in various public sector undertakings during the last three years are indicated in the Public Enterprises Survey-1999-2000 (Vol..III) brought out by the Department of Public Enterprises.

(c) There has been no disinvestment of Government held equity in strategic public sector undertakings.
