(a) & (b): Yes Sir, the Department of Science & Technology, under its Seismicity Programme, supports Research and Development in the area of earthquake and related fields. A number of projects have been funded to various academic and research institutions for earthquake studies, especially, to understand the earthquake mechanism and source processes. Specific studies have also been conducted after the recent significant earthquakes namely, Bhuj 2001, Chamoli 1999, Jabalpur 1997, Latur 1993 and Uttarkashi 1991 and findings have been documented in the form of reports for these earthquakes.
(c) & (d): As per the recommendations made in the reports, specific studies for pre and post disaster mitigation and management strategies have been initiated. These include microzonation studies of selected urban centres, setting up of multi-parametric geophysical observatories for systematic study of precursors, up-gradation of seismic monitoring networks and earthquake education & public awareness etc.
