STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) to (c) OF THE UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 580 BY SHRI BHUPENDRASINH SOLANKI AND SHRI MAHESH KANODIA ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 16.08.2007 REGARDING GAUGE CONVERSION IN GUJARAT.

(a) to (c): As per available records, Government of Gujarat had requested for gauge conversion of metre gauge/narrow gauge line falling partly in the state of Gujarat. Details of ongoing projects/ new proposals for gauge conversion falling fully/partly in the state of Gujarat and action taken thereon is as under:-

1 Bhildi-Samdari This work is being executed by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited. Earth work and bridge works have been taken up. This work is planned for completion during 2008-09. 2 Bharcuh-Samni-Dahej This work is being executed by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited. Special Purpose Vehicle named Bharuch-Dahej Railway Company Limited has been formed and shareholders agreement has also been signed. The process of award of contract will start after signing of the Concession Agreement. 3 Mehsana-Patan Work on Viramgam-Mahesana has been completed. Mahesana-Patan is targeted for completion during 2007-08. 4 Surendranagar- Work on Surendranagar-Dhrangadhra section has been taken Dhrangadhra up and targeted for completion during 2007-08.

Proposals

1 Ahmedabad-Botad Survey completed. Necessary action has been initiated to obtain requisite clearances. 2 Dhasa-Jetalsar 3 Ahmedabad-Udaipur 4 Dhasa-Veraval Survey has not been taken up on this route Dhasa- Khijadiya- Veraval
