Question : Maternity Benefits (Amendment) Act- 2017

(a)whether the Government has taken steps to provide 26 weeks maternity benefits to their women employees as provided for in the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017;
(b)if so, the details thereof;
(c)the total number of female employees benefited from various entities under the said Act since its inception, State/ UT-wise;
(d)whether the Government has taken measures to ensure that the said Act is implemented in all the entities in the country for the benefit of female employees; and
(e)if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (e): Yes, Madam. Advisories are issued to State Governments from time to time for strict enforcement and compliance of the provisions of the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017 as the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961, is enforced and implemented by the respective State Governments in all sectors except in the Mines and Circus industries. Government does not maintain data centrally in respect of female employees benefited under the Act.
