REGARDING REVENUE LEAKAGE/LOSS
(a) As a result of preventive checks and decoy checks carried out
during the last three years, leakage in revenue to the tune of
Rs.1530.66 crores has been detected by Vigilance and other Departments
in Railways as detailed below:-

(b) The officials found responsible for various irregularities of leakage
of revenue, have been taken up under the Railway Servants (Discipline & Appeal)
Rules, 1968 as applicable; and suitable action for banning of business dealing
with the firm has also been initiated.
As on 11.05.2012, business dealings with 35 firms have been banned and
02 firms suspended.
(c) Preventive and decoy checks are carried out to curb revenue leakage/
loss. During the year 2011, 26213 nos. of preventive checks and decoy checks
were conducted. In addition, a number of steps have also been taken to expand
the role of technology in decision making and to improve systems to ensure
greater transparency and accountability. As a part of leveraging technology,
e-procurement and e-tendering have been started. In-motion weighbridges have
been installed at rake loading points and roadside stations to prevent
overloading cases.
