(a) the number of Stadium at present, State-wise
(b) the number of Stadium constructed during the last two years, State-wise, especially in West Bengal;
(c) whether any stadium has been constructed in West Bengal especially in rural areas during the last two years ; and
(d) if so, the details thereof ?

(a) : ‘Sports’ is a state subject . It is primarily the
responsibility of the State Government to create sports
facilities including stadia in the State . Hence , the
complete information regarding the number of stadia
available in the States is not maintained in the Ministry .
However , Central Government supplements the efforts of the
State Governments for creation of various sports facilities
including stadia by providing Central assistance in
accordance with the approved pattern under the scheme of “
Grants for Creation of Sports Infrastructure†subject to
the receipt of viable proposals from the states .
(b) The State wise details of stadia completed during
the years 2002-03 to 2004-05 (as on 22-02-2005) including in
West Bengal with Central assistance under the
aforementioned scheme have been given in the enclosed
Annexure
(c) During the last two years , i.e. 2002-03 to 2003-04 one
project of Indoor Stadium at Bolpur has been approved. One
project which was approved in 2001-02, which is in Urban
area has been completed in 2003-04.
(d): Indoor Stadium (Category – III) at Jalpaiguri has
been completed with Central assistance of Rs.20.00 lakhs.
