Question : GAUGE CONVERSION WORK ON DELHI-JAIPUR RAILWAY LINES



(a) the present status of gauge conversion work on Delhi-Jaipur railway line via Lohare- Jhunjhunu-Sikar-Churu-Ringum-Jaipur and Suratgarh-Hanumangarh railway lines;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the time by which the said work is likely to be completed ?

(a) to (c): Delhi to Rewari is already a Broad Gauge line. Rewari to Sadulpur via Loharu is already a sanctioned Gauge Conversion work, targeted for completion in 2008-09. Further, survey for Loharu-Sikar and Jaipur-Ringus-Sikar-Churu Gauge Conversion has been completed. As per survey, cost of the Gauge Conversion (319 kms) has been assessed as Rs.500 crore. The proposal has been sent to Planning Commission for “in principle” approval.

Suratgarh-Hanumangarh is already a broad gauge line.
