(a) whether the Government has assessed the possibility of increasing employment opportunities
in the steel industry;
(b) if so, the details thereof; and
(c) the details of employment generated through the steel industry during each of the last three
years and the current year?

(a)&(b): National Steel Policy 2005, envisages 340 tonnes per man-year of productivity index by the year 2010,
taking into account a mix of old and new plants. Furthermore, creation of one man-year of employment in the
steel industry generates an additional 3.5 man-years of employment elsewhere in the country due to strong
linkages with other sectors such as transport, mining, construction, machinery and steel fabrication.
