MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE AND MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS, FOOD AND PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION (PROF. K.V. THOMAS)

(a): Government provides Subsidy to farmers under various schemes/programmes like Agricultural Credit, Seeds, Micro-irrigation, National Horticulture Mission etc. The criteria for providing subsidy differ from scheme to scheme.

(b): Crop specific subsidy/assistance is provided to wheat and paddy producing farmers under National Food Security Mission (NFSM) in identified districts for raising production and productivity of rice and wheat. The assistance under the scheme is provided for specific components like seed minikit programme of rice and wheat, distribution of hybrid rice seed, promotion of micronutrient in rice and wheat, farm implements and purchase of diesel pump sets etc. The scheme is in operation since 2007-08.

No such crop specific assistance is provided to sugarcane producing farmers. The amount released for wheat and paddy under the scheme (NFSM) for 2007-08 & 2008-09, state-wise is annexed.
