(a) whether it is a fact that growth in IT spends has fallen from 33 per cent in 1999-2000 and 2000-01 to 3 per cent (in dollar terms) in 2002;
(b) if so, the reasons therefor; and
(c) the steps taken/being taken by the Government to boost IT Industry in the country?

(a) and (b): National Association of Software and Service Companies ( NASSCOM), the growth in IT spends has fallen from 33% in 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 to 3% (in dollar terms) in fiscal 2002. The slowdown in IT industry is mainly on account of Global economic slowdown and reduction in IT spending by the major global players.
(c): The steps taken by the Government to boost the IT Industry in the country are given in Annexure.
