Question : RIVER VALLEY PROJECT



(a) the watersheds in which river-vally project has been sanctioned in Satara District of Maharashtra;

(b) the amount sanctioned for each watershed project and the area to be covered along with the period in which the works are to be completed;

(c) whether due to non-availability of funds the works under the river valley project are hampered; and

(d) if so, the remedial steps taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) to (d) Tarali irrigation project benefiting an area of 19.498 th. Ha. located on Tarali River in Krishna Basin in Satara district of Maharashtra has been accepted by the Advisory Committee of Ministry of Water Resources. Irrigation is a State subject and planning, execution and funding as well as priority of execution of projects is within the purview of State Government. Central Assistance under Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP) is provided by the Government of India to irrigation projects in accordance with guidelines of AIBP in force from time to time and on the basis of proposal for AIBP submitted by the State Government. One of the primary conditions for inclusion of a project in AIBP is that the project should have investment clearance from Planning Commission. The investment clearance from Planning Commission is yet to be obtained by the State Government of Maharashtra for Tarali Project.
