Question : Scholarship Schemes

(a) whether the Government has received proposals from various States including Maharashtra to increase income limit of parents and scholarship amount for various scholarship schemes including pre-matric, post-matric and merit cum means schemes ;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reaction of the Government thereon;

(c) whether a very small percentage of students who apply for scholarship get it from the Government;

(d) if so, the number of students who got scholarship against those who applied during each of the last three years and the current year, scheme-wise, State-wise including Maharashtra and Karnataka along with the States having the highest number of student beneficiaries ; and

(e) the action taken by the Government to increase income limit and scholarship amount under pre-matric scholarship, post-metric scholarship and merit-cum-means scholarship schemes and giving all applicants these scholarships every year?

(a) and (b) : No, Madam. No such proposals have been received in the Ministry from any State including Maharashtra.

(c) and (d): No, Madam. Under all the three Scholarship schemes namely Pre-matric, Post-matric, Merit-cum-Means based scholarship schemes, scholarships are awarded as per the physical quota fixed for State/UT on the basis of 2001 Census. The number of students who got scholarship during each of the last three years and the current year, scheme-wise, State-wise including the State of Maharashtra and Karnataka is at Annexure-1.

(e): The income limit of parents and scholarship amount for all three scholarship schemes namely Pre-matric, Post-matric and Merit-cum-Means based scholarship schemes are subject to revision after the completion of 12th Plan Period.
