THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF WATER RESOURCES (SMT. BIJOYA CHAKRAVARTY)
(a) & (b) Flood Management being a State subject, the
responsibility of planning funding, executing and operating
flood control schemes including river erosion primarily rests
with the State Governments. The assistance rendered by the
Central Government is technical, catalytic and promotional in
nature.
No such detailed survey has been conducted by Central
Government on erosion of river banks of major rivers in the
country including Godavari river.
(c) & (d) A Centrally Sponsored Scheme, âCritical Anti Erosion
Works in the Ganga Basin Statesâ covering the States of Bihar,
West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal was taken up for
implementation in the 9th Plan with a central share of Rs. 110
crore. Against the above scheme an amount of Rs. 51.85 crore
has been released by the Government of India during the IXth
Plan to various State Governments, as detailed below, to take
up critical anti erosion works:
Bihar : Rs. 22.08 crore
West Bengal : Rs. 17.88 crore
Uttar Pradesh : Rs. 10.89 crore
Uttaranchal : Rs. 1.00 crore
