Question : Honey Research Centre

Will the Minister of AYURVEDA, YOGA AND NATUROPATHY, UNANI, SIDDHA AND HOMOEOPATHY (AYUSH) be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government has received any proposal for developing Honey Research Centre from any institutions/State Governments and if so, the details thereof and the action taken by the Government on the said proposal;

(b) whether the Government proposes to increase the number of Honey Research Centre with participation from private sector and if so, the details thereof, State/UT-wise; and

(c) whether the Government proposes to set up any Honey Research in Kanyakumari particularly in Nagercoil district and if so, the details thereof?

ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE (IC) OF THE MINISTRY OF AYURVEDA,

(a): Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) under Ministry of agriculture and Farmers welfare has informed that the setting up of Indian Institute of Honey Bees and Pollinators with four regional station under ICAR has been recommended in recent report of Beekeeping Development Committee constituted by Economic Advisory Council to the Hon’ble Prime Minister.
(b) & (c): ICAR has also informed that new centers will be included based on potential of the region for bee keeping subject to availability of funds. The proposed National institute on Honey bees and Pollinators will have four regional stations in areas having huge potential for bee keeping research and extension. One such regional station is proposed in the state of Tamil Nadu. The exact location of the proposed regional station is yet to be decided.
