Question : APPOINTMENT OF LGRO UNDER RTE ACT



(a) whether some States/UTs have no Local Grievance Redressal Officers (LGRO) under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government has urged those State Governments to appoint grievance redressal officers under the RTE Act; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and the follow up action taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) & (d): All States/UTs except Lakshadweep have notified the constitution of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR)/ Right to Education Protection Authority (REPA) as per section 31 of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009 for grievance redressal at the State level. 24 States/UTs have also notified local authorities at district, block or village level, which can be approached for redressal of grievances with regard to the RTE Act, as laid down under Section 32. The Central Government has been pursuing regularly with the remaining States for notification of local authority, through written reminders and also periodic reviews in meetings of State Education Secretaries.
