Question : Setting up of Technical Institutes

(a) whether the Government has taken any steps to set up technical institutes in the State of Maharashtra;
(b) if so, the details thereof along with the location identified in this regard;
(c) whether the Government is providing assistance for setting up technical institutes in remote and backward areas of Maharashtra;
(d) if not, the reasons therefor; and
(e) the steps taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) to (e): Yes Madam. The central institutions of higher learning established in the State of Maharashtra are: the Indian Institute of Technology (at Mumbai), the National Institute of Technology (at Nagpur), the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) (at Pune) and the Indian Institute of Management (at Nagpur). All these institutions are fully funded by the Central Government. Two Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) are being set up at Pune and Nagpur in Public Private Partnership mode and they are expected to start functioning from 2016-17.
