Question : RELEASE OF CHILD LABOUR



(a) whether the Union Government are aware that the Government of Karnataka has been successful in releasing number of child labour from the clutches of various establishments;

(b) if so, whether the Union Government have issued any directives to speed up the process of identification of child labour in various organizations;

(c) if so, the details thereof; and

(d) the funds allotted to Karnataka for rehabilitation of these children?

(a) to (d) : As per the information received from the State Government of Karnataka, 3418 children have been mainstreamed in to formal schools since 1999-2000. These children have been mainstreamed from the special schools being run under the Scheme of National Child Labour Projects launched by the Government in 7 districts through 190 special schools of 50 children each.


Identification of child labour is a continuous process and the State Government has issued directions to speed up the process. According to the survey conducted by the State Government, 6184 child labour have been identified to be working in hazardous occupations.


Under the scheme of National Child Labour Projects, five projects at Raichur, Bijapur, Dharwad, Bangalore Rural District and Bangalore District, in the State of Karnataka have been sanctioned for the coverage of 9,500 children withdrawn from work. An amount of Rs.4,09,36,000/- has been allocated for the current financial year.
