Question : Self-financing Engineering Colleges


(a) whether the Government has noticed a number of violations and malpractices in
various self-financing Engineering Colleges in various parts of the country;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Government has also noticed that students were forced to even
commit suicide due to the said developments;
(d) if so, the details thereof; and
(e) whether the Government has any proposal to appoint a high level agency to
monitor the functioning of the self financed engineering colleges and if so, the
details thereof?

(a) & (b): Yes Madam. There were complaints received regarding violations and
malpractices in various self-financing Engineering Colleges. The details thereof are
at Annexure.
(c) & (d): No such incident has come to the notice of the Ministry.
(e): No, Madam. AICTE, the regulatory body of technical education in the country,
monitors the functioning of AICTE approved self financed engineering colleges.
Any Institute, failing to adhere to the norms and standards prescribed in the AICTE
Approval Process Handbook, is liable for punitive actions.
