(a) whether the Ministry of Defence has initiated a proposal to provide second
bridge over river Chenab at Akhnoor and a bridge on Manawar Tawi at Bari Pattan to
provide linkage to Chammb sector and Rajouri & Poonch districts of Jammu and
Kashmir;
(b) if so, the status of the said proposal; and
(c) the time by which the above bridges are likely to be constructed?

(a) Yes, Sir.
(b) Lowest-bid has been finalised for construction of a second bridge on river
Chenab at Akhnoor. The proposal for the Manawar-Tawi bridge has been accorded
low priority due to other requirements of greater operational necessity.
(c) Probable Date of Completion (PDC) of Chenab bridge is December 2007. No
time schedule has been fixed for Manawar-Tawi bridge.
