Question : World Class Universities

(a) whether the Government has identified or proposes to identify Central
Universities/ Organisations that are likely to make their mark globally in the field of
education and research and if so, the details thereof;
(b) if so, whether the Government has allocated any funds/incentives to the said
public and private institutions in the country and if so, the details thereof; and
(c) if not, the reasons therefor?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (c) OF THE LOK
SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 108 FOR 02.05.2016 ASKED BY
HON’BLE MEMBER SHRI UDAY PRATAP SINGH REGARDING WORLD
CLASS UNIVERSITIES.

(a) to (c): There is a proposal to establish a regulatory architecture to enable ten
public and ten private institutions to emerge as World-Class Teaching and Research
Institutions. The details of the same are being worked out including selection of
institutions. The Government has not as yet allocated any funds for the proposal,
but will provide adequate support to assist 10 public institutions.
