Question : Sagar Vani

(a) whether the Government proposes to integrate ‘Sagar Vani’ software platform in a single central server, if so, the details thereof along with allocation of funds in the coastal region;

(b) whether the said software platform is likely to ensure the safety and security of the fishermen community in coastal region, if so, the details thereof; and

(c) whether this would help to provide job opportunity to skilled workers in West Bengal, Gujarat, Bihar and other parts of the country, if so, the details thereof?

(a) Yes Sir. Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) an autonomous institute of Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) has developed a mobile application “Sagar Vani” to disseminate the ocean information/advisories and early warning to various user communities in the country including the fishermen. “Sagar Vani” is developed and integrated into the INCOIS central server hosting the Integrated Dissemination System (IDS). The allocation for IDS project is Rs. 1.96 Crore.

(b) Yes Sir. The advisories disseminated through the software application helps the fishermen in getting information on the ocean state forecast, high wave alerts, tsunami early warnings, etc, thus ensuring the safety and security of the fishermen community in the coastal regions.

(c) No Sir. Does not arise.
