a) whether the Government proposes to promote the Geo-thermal energy resources in Ladakh for power generation;
b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;
c) whether the Government is aware about the different medicinal properties of each hot spring in Himalayan region;
d) if so, the details thereof; and
e) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a)&(b) The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has issued a letter of support to ONGC Energy Centre (OEC) for setting up 1 MW pilot geothermal power project in Puga Valley of Ladakh. OEC has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UT Administration of Ladakh in this regard. The project is currently under implementation.
(c) to (e) As per the report of the National Institute of Sowa Rigpa (NISR), Leh, traditional practitioners are using hot springs in Leh-Ladakh for treatment of arthritis, skin diseases, gastrointestinal problems, migraine, eye disorders, joint and cervical problems, etc.
