Question : TRADE WITH SINGAPORE



(a) the details of items currently being imported to and exported from Singapore and the amount involved;

(b) whether there is large scope for import/export between India and Singapore in other items;

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether the Government proposes to seek the participation of Singapore Government to enhance import/export; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a) The value of imports from Singapore to India during 2007-08 amounts to Rs. 3,268,217.73 lakhs. The value of exports from India to Singapore during the same period stood at Rs.2,966,223.26 lakhs. (b)to (e): A Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) between India and Singapore was signed on 29th June, 2005, which came into effect from 1st August, 2005. To further expand the tariff liberalization package within the Trade in Goods chapter, India and Singapore have signed a Protocol on 20-12-2007 to amend the India-Singapore CECA.
