Question : CONSTRUCTION OF FLY OVERS IN TAMIL NADU



(a) the details of proposed/under construction railway bridges/fly-overs pending in Tamil Nadu;

(b) the reasons for the delay in completion of such bridges; and

(c) the steps taken by the Government to complete these bridges ?

(a) At present, in Tamil Nadu 30 works of Road Over/Road Under Bridges sanctioned on cost sharing basis are at different stages of planning and execution. These include 12 such bridges which are also under construction on cost sharing basis as part of Gauge conversion project. In addition, 23 proposals have been included in the Railway`s Works Programme of 2000-2001 which will be taken as sanctioned after passing of Railway Budget 2000-2001 by the Parliament.

(b) Works are planned and executed in consultation with State Govt./Local Authorities. Completion of works depends upon execution of approaches by State Govt./Local Authorities.

(c) Allocation of more funds have been proposed during the year 2000-2001 to expedite early completion of the works.
