(a) whether China Light Power Company (CLP) have requested to the Government to execute 1000 MW thermal power project near Mangalore in Joint Venture with an Indian Partner;
(b) if so, whether the work on the project would commence during March, 2000; and
(c) if so, the facts and details thereof?

(a) : M/s. China Light and Power International have addressed
a letter dated 2.2.2000 to the Government of Karnataka stating
that they are committed to implement the project by choosing an
Indian partner, who would hold at least 30% of equity in
Mangalore Power Company and in any case, M/s. China Light and
Power International will retain at least 50% share holding.
(b) : The project will not be able to achieve financial
closure by March, 2000 and hence construction work on the project
is not likely to commence during this period.
(c) : Does not arise.
