(a) Yes Sir. The Government had already initiated an Inter-Ministerial funding programme “Scientific Utilization Through Research Augmentation-Prime Products from Indigenous Cows” (SUTRA-PIC) with the objective of providing scientific basis for traditional and ancient knowledge of the country with respect to indigenous cows and their products through scientific research and validation.
(b) Department of Science and Technology is the nodal department for coordinating this Inter-Ministerial funding programme supported by Ministry of Science & Technology through Department of Science and Technology (DST), Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR)-Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR); Ministry of Ayush; Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). The thematic areas taken up for Research & Development pertaining to Prime Products from Indigenous Cows are given below:
1. Scientific Research on Uniqueness of Indigenous Cows.
2. Scientific Research on Prime Products from Indigenous Cows for Medicine and Health.
3. Scientific Research on Prime Products from Indigenous Cows for Agricultural Applications.
4. Scientific Research on Prime Products from Indigenous Cows for Food and Nutrition.
5. Scientific Research on Prime products from indigenous Cows-based Utility Items.
Each of the thematic area above is adopted by a Ministry/Department as a lead agency for funding. A call for proposals was put up by DST for “Scientific Utilization through Research Augmentation- Prime Products from Indigenous Cows” (SUTRA-PIC) program. Out of 337 proposals received, 34 proposals were recommended for financial support to develop socially useful and commercially relevant knowledge, process and technologies in identified thrust areas such as medicine and health, agriculture, food and nutrition and utility items.
