(a): Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has been implementing Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U) since 25.06.2015 for providing assistance to States/ Union Territories (UTs) for addressing the housing requirement of the people belonging to Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Low Income Group (LIG) and Middle Income Group (MIG) categories in urban areas through following four verticals:

3. Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) Upto 30 sqm Rs. 1.50 lakh

4. Beneficiary-led individual house construction/ enhancement (BLC) Upto 30 sqm Rs. 1.50 lakh




The scheme covers the entire urban area consisting of Statutory Towns, Notified Planning Areas, Development Authorities, Special Area Development Authorities, Industrial Development Authorities or any such authority under State legislation which is entrusted with the functions of urban planning & regulations.

All houses constructed under PMAY-U have basic amenities like water supply, electricity, kitchen and toilet. The Mission promotes women empowerment by providing the ownership of houses in name of female member or in joint name. Preference is also given to differently abled persons, senior citizens, Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Minority, single women, trans gender and other weaker & vulnerable sections of the society.
Based on the project proposals received so far from the States/ UTs under the Scheme, a total 110 lakh houses have been sanctioned; out of this, 71.4 lakh are at various stages of construction and 41.8 lakh have been completed/ delivered.

(b): Out of total sanctioned 109,82,808 houses; 98,85,386 houses have been sanctioned for EWS, 6,04,826for LIG and 4,92,596 for MIG category beneficiaries across the country. These include 40,821 houses in the State of Uttarakhand and 2,27,227 in the Bundelkhand region (Banda, Chitrakoot, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Jhansi, Lalitpur, and Mahoba districts of Uttar Pradesh and Chhatarpur, Damoh, Datia, Panna, Sagar and Tikamgarh districts of Madhya Pradesh).
