Question : Maintenance of River Ganga’s Bank

(a) whether the Government has any plan to construct STP at Farrukhabad to make the bank of River Ganga clean;
(b) if so, the details thereof and the time by which it will be completed;
(c) whether the Government proposes to have electric crematorium at the cremation sites on the banks of River Ganga; and
(d) if so, the details thereof including Farrukhabad?

(a) A project “Interception, Diversion & Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) works and 15 years operation & maintenance” at Farrukhabad-Fatehgarh at an estimated cost of Rs.213.62 crores has been sanctioned under Namami Gange Programme with 100% central funding.
(b) The project envisages interception of 3 drains namely Pakkapul Drain, Tokaghat Drain and Bhairo Ghat Drain and diverting them to 2 nos. of STPs of 28 Million Litres per Day (MLD) and 5 MLD capacity apart from treatment of Bargadiya drain waste water through development of constructed wetlands. The project has been tendered with a completion period of 21 months after award of works.

(c) Ministry of Jal Shakti through National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) has already sanctioned three electric crematoria at Garulia, Naihati and Bhatpara in West Bengal along Ganga which are under advance stage of completion.

(d) As of now there is no electric crematorium proposed in Farrukhabad.
