(a) whether the Government could not provide funds for the modernisation of the Central Para -Military Forces in the last few years as targetted;
(b) if so, the reasons therefore;
(c) whether in the absence of adequate funds, the modernisation of the CPMF has been adversely affected; and
(d) if so, the facts thereof and the steps the Government propose to take to ensure that the funds for the modernisation of the CPMF are made available for the purpose?

(a)to(d): Modernisation of Central Para Military Forces (CPMFs) is a continuous exercise. During the last few years, the Government has given special attention to upgrading the striking capability of CPMFs by induction of modern and sophisticated weaponry and equipment. In order to provide a time perspective to Government efforts and to cope with the challenge of increased militant and terrorist activities, a Five Year perspective plan for modernisation of CPMFs has been formulated which will be implemented in a phased manner subject to availability of funds in the annual budget of the CPMFs.
