Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR WATER RESOURCES, RIVER DEVELOPMENT AND GANGA REJUVENATION
(DR. SANJEEV KUMAR BALYAN)

(a) & (b) Yes, government is encouraging research in the fields of water management and its conservation technology;

Ministry of Water Resources, RD & GR is sponsoring research projects by funding the academic / research institutes through three Indian National Committees (INCs) on Surface Water, Ground Water and Climate Change under its planned scheme "Research & Development (R&D) Programme in Water Sector".

? Under Indian National Committee on Surface Water (INCSW), presently there are total six R&D Schemes in hand in the field of water management and its conservation technology.
? Under Indian National Committee on Climate Change (INCCC), the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation invited research project proposals from premier academic & research institutions of the country for thorough studies on “impact of Climate Change in river basins and downscaling studies for future predictions” under INCCC. Among the above invited projects, seven studies on impact of climate change on water resources and one downscaling study have already been approved by MoWR, RD&GR.

? Under Indian National Committee of Ground Water (INCGW) at present there are 3 ongoing and 5 under completion Schemes.

The details are given in Annexure.

(c) & (d) The proposal for setting up a water university is presently not under consideration of the Ministry.
