Question : DOORDARSHAN S CRICKET TELECAST RIGHTS SCANDAL



(a) whether attention of the Government has been drawn to the report appearing in the Asian Age dated March 5, 2002 regarding CBI- CVC nexus in exonerating the persons charged in Doordarshan`s Cricket telecast rights scandal resulting in massive loss to the Government;

(b) if so, the facts thereof; and

(c) the action taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) : Yes, Sir.

(b) & (c) : The CBI has informed that they had registered five cases against the officials of Prasar Bharati for their alleged involvement in Doordarshan`s Telecast Rights scandals of Cricket and Tennis. Of these five cases, investigation reports in respect of four cases have been received. The Government has accepted the recommendation of CBI in these cases and forwarded the same to the Central Vigilance Commission for advice. Investigation Report in respect of the fifth case is awaited from CBI.
