Question : SETTING UP OF VOCATIONAL TRAINING CETNRES



(a) the number of Vocational Training Centres and Vocational training providers approved by the Directorate General of Employment and Training (DGET) in the country, State-wise including Uttar Pradesh and Assam;

(b) whether the Government proposes to set up more such training centres particularly in the tribal dominated areas of the country;

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether there is an increasing demand for skilled professionals across industries in the country;and

(e) if so, the steps taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) Directorate General of Employment & Training does not approve any Vocational Training Centre/ Vocational Training Provider. However, number of Vocational Training Providers empanelled by State Governments/ Union Territory Administrations under Skill Development Initiative Scheme since inception is at Annex – 1.

(b) & (c) The empanelment of new Vocational Training Providers is dependent on the need of State Governments/ Union Territory Administrations for skilled manpower in various sectors of economy. However, a proposal to set up 5000 Skill Development Centres in Public Private Partnership is under consideration of the Govt.

(d) Various surveys point out towards an increasing demand for skilled professionals across industries in the country.

(e) The Government of India has operationalised Skill Development Initiative (SDI) Scheme since May 2007 with an objective to improve employability of persons by providing vocational training through Vocational Training Providers (VTPs). Persons trained through VTPs and existing workers who have acquired skills through informal sources are tested by the empanelled assessing bodies appointed by the Government. Successful persons are awarded certificates issued by National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) which is recognized within the country as well as outside. Some other steps taken by the government are upgradation of existing government ITIs, setting up of National Skill Development Corporation, focused attention on strengthening skill development infrastructure in J&K, North East and Left Wing Extremism affected States, etc. 1500 new ITIs are also proposed to be set up in Public Private Partnership in the next five years.
