Question : COLLISION OF VEHICLES AT IGI AIRPORT



(a) whether accidents in the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) has been increasing in the recent past;

(b) if so, whether there is any traffic plan at the airport;

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) the number of vehicles ply inside the airport daily; and

(e) the time by which the Government will prepare and implement traffic plan for the said airport?

(a),(b),(c),&(d) The number of accidents at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport have not increased in the recent past. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has undertaken the following steps for the safety of passengers / drivers etc. on the apron;
1. Use of speed gun to monitor/control vehicular movement.
2. Deployment of airside monitoring and inspection jeeps for enforcement of apron rules and regulations.
3. Restriction of speed in some `accident prone areas` i.e. from 30 kilometer per hour to 15 kilometer per hour.
4. Installation of additional information signs regarding speed limit.
5. Fencing of critical equipment parking areas to control entry / exit of vehicular / equipment.
6. Redesigning of apron layout to reduce vehicular movement.

(e) 1693 Airport Driving Permits for motorized vehicles have been issued at IGI Airport. However, all these vehicles do not operate daily at the same time.
