Question : Expansion of NIMHANS- Bengaluru

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government is aware about the shortage of nursing staff at National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences (NIMHANS) in Bengaluru, if so, the actual shortage as compared to the sanctioned strength;

(b) whether any recruitment for the purpose is underway or proposed to be conducted shortly, if so, the details thereof;

(c) the details and status of the expansion plans currently underway in NIMHANS; and

(d) the details of the funds allocated for each project, the targets set for their completion and the expected outcome of each project?

(a) & (b): Against the approved 756 posts of nurses in National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru, 753 posts are filled. Based on the requirement of the Institute, 210 new posts of nurses have been sanctioned and the process of filling up these posts has been started.
(c) & (d): To have a specialty clinic in the field of Psychiatry and a common laboratory complex, establishment of a Psychiatry Specialty Block and a Common Laboratory Complex at NIMHANS at a cost of Rs. 41.32 cr and Rs. 62.88 cr respectively has been approved. The expected outcomes of these projects are as under:
i. Service, Research and Training in specialty areas of psychiatry starting from perinatal psychiatry to geriatric psychiatry.
ii. Reduction in lab turn-around time with inter-departmental sample testing.
