(a): The total estimated quantum of coal resources in the country is 301.56 billion tonnes as per “The inventory of Geological Resources of Indian Coal” (as on 01.04.2014), prepared by the Geological Survey of India (GSI). The quality-wise and category-wise resources is given below :

(b): The total coal extracted from different coalfields of India since 1950 up to 2013-14 is around 12534.97 million tonnes as per GSI inventory and the coal extracted during 2013-14 is 565.64 million tonnes. There are adequate coal resources to meet the demand.
(c): Raw coal production of India and the rate of increase compared to the Gross Domestic product (GDP) during last three years is mentioned below:

(d): The Government had taken steps to improve Coal production which include efforts to expedite Environment & Forest clearances, pursuing with State Government for help in expediting land acquisition and coordinated effort with Railways for movement of coal. Steps have been taken by Coal India Limited and its subsidiaries to augment coal production which includes capacity addition from new projects and use of mass production technologies and stringent monitoring of development of coal blocks.
