Question : PLYING OF HEAVY VEHICLES IN RESIDENTIAL AREAS



(a) whether it is a fact that the movement of heavy vehicles is banned in the residential areas during night;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the steps taken to check that heavy vehicles do not ply in the residential areas; and

(d) the number of surprise checks done and action taken in the matter by the Senior officers area-wise particularly in Shalimar Bagh, Delhi where goods vehicles enter day and night by-passing the Ring Road?

(a)to(c): In exercise of powers conferred by section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act, the Lieutenant Governor of National Capital Territory of Delhi has issued orders to regulate the movement of Heavy Goods, Medium Goods and Light Goods Vehicles in Delhi, which prohibits the plying and idle parking of such vehicles during specified timings in respect of certain roads and areas. The vehicles found violating these instructions are prosecuted on a regular basis.

(d): The senior Police officers regularly conduct surprise checks to ensure that the restrictions imposed on plying of vehicles are effectively enforced. The number of vehicles violating entry restrictions in the area of Ashok Vihar circle, of which Shalimar Bagh forms a part, is given bellow:
