Question : IRRIGATION PROJECTS



(a) the irrigation projects proposed to be set up for utilisation of 18.25 MAF water allocated to Madhy Pradesh by the Narmada Tribunal;

(b) the area in hectares likely to be irrigated and power likely to be generated from the said projects; and

(c) by when the projects are likely to be completed?

(a) The Narmada Water Disputes Tribunal (NWDT), in its award apportioned the utilizable quantum of Narmada Waters of 28 Million Acre Feet (MAF) at Sardar Sarovar Dam site on the basis of 75 per cent dependability and allocated 18.25 MAF for the State of Madhya Pradesh. The details of irrigation projects proposed to be constructed by the Government of Madhya Pradesh for utilization of 18.25 MAF of their share of Narmada waters are as under:

(b) The land proposed to be irrigated and hydro power generation through the proposed projects are as under:

In addition to the above, Madhya Pradesh is entitled to draw its share of 57 per cent of the power generated through the Sardar Sarovar Project as per the NWDT Award.

(c) The Government of Madhya Pradesh has reported the scheduled year of completion of all the 29 major projects as 2012 and 135 medium and more than 3000 minor projects as 2024.
