(a) & (b): In pursuance of the Governmentâs vision of creating
a Slum-free India, a new scheme âRajiv Awas Yojanaâ (RAY) has
been launched on 02.06.2011. The Phase I of Rajiv Awas Yojana
is for a period of two years from the date of approval of the
scheme with a budget of Rs. 5,000 crores. The Scheme is expected
to cover about 250 cities, across the entire country by the end
of 12th Plan (2017).
No funds have been released under Rajiv Awas Yojana so far. Rs.
99.98 crores has been released to 34 State/UTs during the years
2009-10 & 2010-11 for undertaking preparatory activities in 157
cities under Slum Free City Planning Scheme i.e. the preparatory
phase of RAY. The list of 157 cities for which funds have been
released is annexed, of which 10 are from Andhra Pradesh.
(c): As no project has been sanctioned under Rajiv Awas Yojana so
far, no work has commenced on physical construction. However, States/UTs
have reported that they are in various stages of the Slum Free City
Planning exercise involving slum survey, GIS mapping, GIS-MIS integration,
preparation of Slum Redevelopment /Rehabilitation Plans, Zonal Plans, Slum
Free City Plans of Action and pilot projects.
