(a) whether the Coal Controller’s Organisations an outfit of his Ministry has been tasked with grading and notifying the mines of Coal India Limited from April, 2017; and
(b) if so, the details thereof and the findings made by the said Organisation?

(a)& (b) : Coal Controller’s Organisation (CCO), a subordinate office under Ministry of Coal was instructed to carry out fresh gradation of all the seams / sidings of all the mines of CIL and other coal companies for the FY 2017-18. This was entrusted to IIT (BHU), Varanasi; IIT (ISM), Dhanbad; IIT (Guwahati); IIEST (Shibpur) and IICT, Hyderabad and was carried out under the supervision of CCO.
As informed by CCO, out of 395 mines of CIL whose samples were collected and analysed, 189 mines were downgraded in 2017-18.
