Question : FIELD RESULTS OF HYBRID BASMATI RICE



(a) the details of the field results of newly developed Hybrid Basmati Rice variety R.H. 10;

(b) whether it has also been tested in the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh;

(c) if so, the field results thereof;

(d) the findings of the tests conducted on this variety on water, fertilizer and pesticides;

(e) whether this variety is likely to be released for the next season for commercial production; and

(f) if so, the details thereof?

(a) Hybrid basmati rice variety `Pusa RH 10` developed by Indian Agricultural Research Institute has been tested for three years at Delhi, Pantnagar, Kaul (Haryana) and Kapurthala (Punjab). It has given yield advantage of around 40% over existing high yielding Basmati variety, Pusa Basmati-1.

(d) In the agronomic trial conducted by the Division of Agronomy, IARI, New Delhi at the N level (120 kg./ha), the hybrid Pusa RH-10 showed 45% higher yield than the check variety Pusa Basmati-1 at 20 x 10 cm. spacing. This hybrid has been developed for irrigated situations. It is tolerant to major pests of rice crop.

(e) & (f) : This hybrid has already been recommended for release during 2001.
