(a) Yes, Madam. Security issues on Indian Railways is within the ambit of the Railway
Protection Force and the Government Railway Police. Many steps have been taken in the recent
past to strengthen the Railway Protection Force. Some of these are - provision for procurement
of modern security related equipment and arms/ammunition, creation of 5134 additional posts,
raising of 3 new Railway Protection Special Force battalions, setting up of RPF commando
training center, sanction of Integrated Security System for 202 stations, networking of RPF posts and control rooms and setting up of All India
Security Help Line. In addition to these, State Governments have made their own efforts to
strengthen the Government Railway Police (GRP) which functions under their control.
(b) & (c) Yes, Madam. Proposal for creation of 3 battalions of RPSF, 12 Companies of RPF and
771 posts for Metro Railway, Kolkata have been processed.
(d) & (e) RPF is equipped with modern Arms which are being procured through the Ministry of
Home Affairs.
