Question : MEDICAL SEATS IN AIIMS



(a) the intake capacity for MBBS and PG courses in the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi and other newly established AIIMS in the country, AIIMS-wise;

(b) whether the Government proposes to increase the number of medical seats in AIIMS, New Delhi, and if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government proposes to reserve some medical seats for girls in AIIMS, New Delhi and other new AIIMS in order to encourage them to pursue medical courses, and if so, the details thereof;

(d) the details of the complaints received regarding corrupt and immoral practices in AIIMS, New Delhi and other newly established AIIMS, and the action taken/ proposed to be taken by the Government thereon during last year and the current year, AIIMS-wise; and

(e) whether the Government proposes to make course on first aid compulsory at degree level and develop social paediatrics as a discipline, as part of medical education and if so, the details thereof?

(a): In the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi the intake capacity for MBBS course for Indian Nationals is 72 and for PG Courses is 702. The present intake capacity for MBBS in the newly established AIIMS at Bhopal, Rishikesh, Patna, Jodhpur, Bhubaneswar and Raipur is 100 each. PG courses are yet to be started in these Institutes.

(b) & (c): No such proposals are presently under consideration.

(d) & (e): Information is being collected and will be laid on the Table of the House.
