Question : Sanskrit University

(a) the number of Sanskrit Universities presently located in the country, State-wise;
(b) the grants made to each of them during the last three years, year-wise;
(c) whether the Government has any proposal to grant Central University status to some of the
Sanskrit Universities in the country; and
(d) the time by which the above proposal is likely to be implemented?

(a) A list is placed at Annexure-I.
(b) There are three Sanskrit Deemed to be Universi??es which are fully funded by the Central
Government. The funds provided to these three ins??tu??ons are as under:

Apart from the above, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has provided one ??me grant of
Rs.140.00 lakh in 2017-18 to Kavi Kulguru Kalidas Sanskrit University, Ramtek, Maharashtra
which is a State University. Grants to other Universi??es which are State Universi??es are
provided by the respec??ve State Governments.
(c) &(d): Yes Sir, There is a proposal to convert three Sanskrit Deemed to be Universi??es namely
Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan (RSKS), Delhi, Sri Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha
(SLBSRSV), New Delhi and Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidypeetha (RSV), Tirupati to Central University. A
Bill in this regard has already been passed in the Lok Sabha.
