Question : LOW POWER TRANSMITTER CENTRES

(a) whether the Government proposes to close down Low Power Transmitter(LPT) centres in the country; and

(b) if so, the details thereof alongwith the reasons therefor, State-wise?

(a) & (b) : Consequent upon commissioning of a High Power Transmitter(HPT), the Low Power Transmitters (LPT) which fall within the coverage zone of the HPT are closed as this area is adequately served. Two LPTs at Ranaghat & Kalna in West Bengal are presently envisaged to be closed as the area covered by them are adequately covered by the nearby HPT at Krishnanagar.
