Question : Project F-INSAS

(a) the present status of the project F-INSAS aimed to equip infantry with advanced weaponry, survival, communication network and instant access to information on the battlefield;

(b) the steps taken by the Government to equip the soldiers of all 400 plus infantry battalions to ensure a quantum increase in their lethality, situational awareness, sustainability, survival and mobility, while making the soldier a self-contained fighting machine; and

(c) the steps taken by the Government to meet shortage of bullet proof vests?

(a) & (b): Under the Project F-INSAS programme, the induction of weapons and equipment is being done in a phased manner. Adequate impetus is being given to infantry Modernisation Programme. Presently, there are 16 cases in various stages of procurement.

(c) A supply order for procurement of 50,000 Bullet Proof Jackets was placed on 31st March 2016, out of which 10,000 Bullet Proof Jackets have already been received. Cases for procurement of additional 25,000 Bullet Proof Jackets are under process.
