Question : Funds for establishing Libraries in Haryana

(a) the number of libraries opened by the Government in the country including Haryana;

(b) the location-wise details of the libraries opened in Haryana;

(c) whether the Government proposes to open libraries in all districts of Haryana;

(d) if so, the time by which these libraries are likely to be opened; and

(e) the details of the yearly funds earmarked for one library?

(a) Sir, as per Seventh Schedule of the Constitution of India Library is a state subject and opening of new library comes under the purview of the respective State/Union Territory authorities. However, Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation, Kolkata, an autonomous organization under Ministry of Culture provides financial assistance under its matching and non-matching schemes for development of public libraries for various purposes eg. books, furniture & equipments, modernization, construction of library buildings, mobile library services, establishment of children corner, facilities for specially-abled readers, seminars/workshops etc. on the basis of applications recommended by the respective State Library Authorities.

(b) & (e) In view of the (a) above, does not arise.
