Question : EXTRADITION TREATY WITH BANGLADESH



(a) whether the Union Government Proposed as extradition treaty with Bangladesh to secure the custody of north east militants sheltering in Bangladesh as reported in the Times of India dated October 20, 2005;

(b) if so, the facts thereof;

(c) whether Home Secretary level talks with Bangladesh was held in the recent past;

(d) if so, the details of the various issues discussed there at; and

(e) the reaction of the Bangladesh thereon, the details of the decisions taken after such discussions?

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (SHRI S. REGUPATHY)

(a) & (b): The Government has already taken up the matter with the Government of Bangladesh for signing of extradition treaty. The Government of Bangladesh is yet to respond in the matter.

(c) to (e): Home Secretary level talks between India and Bangladesh held on 27-28 October 2005 at New Delhi. In the meeting security related issues, border management, cross border movement, early response on pending treaties and other issues were discussed. It was agreed to work on security issues closely. Both sides also agreed to extend cooperation on various issues.
