Question : DECONGESTION OF BANGALORE CITY



(a) the status of the Karnatakak Urban Infrastructure Development Project sponsored by the Asian Development Bank aimed to decongest Bangalore City by developing satellite townships;

(b) if so, whether Tumkur was identified as one of the satellite cities to be covered under this project;

(c) if so, the details in this regard;

(d) whether the scheduled closing date of this loan is 30 June, 2002;

(e) if so, whether the majore works will be completd before the closure; and

(f) if so, the highlights of the project for the development of Tumkur city and the progress of work thereunder?

(a): The ADB assisted Karnataka Urban Infrasctructure Development Project is in an advanced stage of implementation.

(b): Yes, Sir.

(c): The various components under the KUIDP in Tumkur are water supply and sewerage, solid waste management roads, drains, truck/bus terminus, poverty reduction and industrial sites and services.

(d): Yes, Sir.

(e): Major works are expected to be completed before the closure.

(f): The projects taken up in Tumkur are as at C above. While a few items of work under the various components have been completed, the work on the remaining items are in progress and likely to be in the year 2000/2001.
